Patton made his Harps debut as a 16-year-old in the First Division in April 2012, saving a penalty from Gary Dempsey of Waterford United at the RSC having replaced the injured Ciaran Gallagher.

Now 19, Patton is the second Donegal dweller to sign a new contract for new Derry manager Kenny Shiels, with Ronan Curtis having signed the dotted line last week.

A Derry City club statement read:

Both players has agreed new one year deals with the Candy Stripes and become Kenny Shiels’ seventh signings to his squad ahead of the 2016 season, following Ryan McBride, Aaron Barry, Conor McCormack, Gerard Doherty and Ronan Curtis.
