Shaun McShane ready for ring return after quiet 2017

Lettermacaward boxers Shaun McShane is itching for his ring return on Saturday night.

Scottish-based McShane (5-4-1) hasn’t fought since a win over Alex Bazza last June, but is on the bill at The Knights of St Columba Social Club in Moodiesburn this weekend.

Lightweight McShane is up against James Gorman, though Gorman has yet to be officially confirmed as the opponent. Gorman is a welterweight shedding a lot of weight for this one. Gorman took Steven Carroll over eight rounds for a Celtic title at the end of last year.

“He’s been in with good boys, he likes to fight and mix it up,” McShane said.

“I haven’t had a long camp for this one, but I’ve done enough. It’s time to get back at it again. I had a quiet year in 2017 due to both the arrival of a new baby and injuries. I had one fight in 2017, butI hope to be busy over the next few months and hope to get another fight in March.”

McShane twice challenged Eddie Doyle for the Scottish lightweight title, but lost out in March and October 2016.

The 37-year-old McShane, sponsored by Declan Boyle of the Limelight Nightclub and Daniel Elliot from Elliot’s Bar, is aiming to get on a card in Ireland in 2018.
