SHANE MCGINTY WAS in the thick of the action today as Institute booked their place in the semi-finals of the Intermediate Cup.Stephen Mills netted 17 minutes into extra time as ‘Stute defeated Newington 1-0.
McGinty was named as the Northern Ireland Football Writers’ Association Championship Player of the Month for February and two goals last week against Lisburn Distillery took his tally to nine goals in four games.
The St Johnston man was sure he had added to that number in extra time today, but as his celebration was in full flow after firing to the net he was stopped in his tracks by an offside call.
McGinty headed wide with a great chance before that while a fine attempt from 20 yards crept just past the post.
Earlier in the game, Conal Burns of Newington was sent off when he clashed with McGity and directed his head towards the St Johnston man.
Newtowncunningham man Oisin McMenamin was also in the Institute side this afternoon.
