Finn Harps defender Shane Blaney will move to League One club Doncaster Rovers in the coming days.
With only the finer points of the deal to be ironed out, the 18-year-old is now poised for a switch to the Keepmoat Stadium.
Harps officials today confirmed that the move had progressed to the advanced stages and could be completed ‘in days’.
Donny boss Darren Ferguson went a step further as he told The Irish Sun: “It’s pretty much done, he’s probably going to join up with us on Monday.”
Blaney started one League game for Harps in 2017, the 4-1 loss to Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium, but had been earmarked as one for the future by Ollie Horgan.
Blaney, who will celebrate his 19th birthday later this month, has been at Doncaster a couple of times in the last year and has impressed Ferguson.
The son of legendary Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, the Doncaster manager said: “He’s perhaps not one for now, we’ll put him away, but he’s one we’ve looked at and we like him.”
Blaney captained the Republic of Ireland Schoolboys team against Wales in early 2017 and has played for Harps at Under-17 and Under-19 levels.
It is understood that Harps would receive a small fee from Doncaster for Blaney with Illistrin, for whom the player turned out at schoolboys level, entitled to a percentage.
Last year, Marc Walsh moved from Harps to Swansea City while Ipswich Town are keen on Harps’ Conor O’Reilly and Daragh Ellison was on trial at Stoke City recently.
