Several Letterkenny Athletic Club (LAC) runners took part in Sunday’s Donegal Athletics 5K, which was held in Letterkenny.

The first LAC runner home was Ivan Toner, whose time of 16.47 gave him fifth place overall and first place in the M40 category.

Enda McBride clocked 17.55 and David Smith achieved a time of 18.24.

Barry Mackey carried his good summer form into early autumn when he ran 18.57 to take third place in a very competitive M50 category.

Fellow LAC M50 runner, John Hughes, ran 20.26. Adrian Callaghan illustrated his immense powers of recovery by clocking 21.28 so soon after his exploits in the Inishowen Quadrathon.

Kevin Greenan was the second M60 runner in 22.07 and Richard Raymond was third in 23.14.

Jane Toner had a fine run in her first competitive action since giving birth. She was second in the F35 category in 23.30. Patricia McKenna ran well and finished in 26.00.

The trio of Barry Mackey, John Hughes and Kevin Greenan comprised the LAC team which scooped second prize in the Inter-Club M50 category.

The Waterside Half Marathon was held in Derry on Sunday and featured several impressive runs by LAC runners.

Ciaran McGonagle was 7th overall and the second M40 finisher in 1.14.21. Annemarie McGlynn had a tremendous run and won the women’s race in 1.17.01.

Kieran Coyle clocked 1.32.07 and Marie Boyle 1.35.52. The ubiquitous Adrian Callaghan came home in 1.38.27.

Catherine McKinley was the winner of the F40 category in 1.39.43. Gary Kearns’ time was 1.45.42.

On Friday evening, Ivan Toner ended summer the same way as he had started it.

He emerged victorious from the Sean McCumhaill’s 5K in Ballybofey. Ivan’s time of 16.56 saw him finish thirteen seconds clear of Finn Valley AC’s John McElhill.

The first two runners were both M40 athletes and the strength of Masters’ running in Donegal can be gauged from the fact that seven of the first nine finishers were in the M40 category.

Hugh Gallagher ran 24.43 in the Coolaney 5K in south County Sligo on Friday.

The winner was Shane Hayes of Sligo AC in a time of 16.34. For the second consecutive week, Martin Gormley was second in the Letterkenny park run. Like the previous week, he also recorded his fastest time. Martin finished in 19.11 and was the leading M50 runner.
