Sunday afternoon’s Intermediate final against Aodh Ruadh offers Glenfin the chance to get back into the senior ranks again.
“The older boys all played senior and we were in senior for a good few years,” McGlynn says.
“We dropped down a couple of years ago, but the senior experience still stands to us, I suppose.
“We’re all pushing to get the club back to where we feel we’re good enough to be.
“It would be a major boost to the club. We have some quality footballers coming through. To get back playing senior football would be a great boost to them anyway.”
Glenfin were handed as tough a draw as they could have wished for the group phase, paired alongside two of the fancied Championship sides in Buncrana and Cloughaneely.
Glenfin drew with Buncrana and a Matthew McGinley goal helped defeat Cloughaneely away.
Glenfin have had their feet on the ground this year and consolidation was the aim of their game – which they managed in staying out of troubled waters in Division 2.
Now, though, they face into a final meeting with Aodh Ruadh.
“This was never mentioned at the start of the year,” McGlynn says.
“We went into the Championship on a good run in the League and just took it from there. We’re here now so we’ll regroup and build from there.”
