BONAGEE UNITED continued their fine start to the season with a 3-2 win over Fanad United at Dry Arch Park this evening.

Their second victory of the season – following a 2-1 victory against Cockhill Celtic on Sunday – in the Donegal News League Cup means their semi-final place in the competition is assured from the three-team group.

Cockhill must beat Arthur Lynch’s Fanad side to join them in the last four.

This evening, in an entertaining contest, Davit Walsh shot Fanad into a 15th minute lead when he was on hand to tuck home a rebound after Brian McVeigh’s shot had been parried by Eugene Ferry.

Walsh, 11 minutes later, flashed a free-kick just wide from the edge of the penalty area.

The equaliser for Bonagee (pictured above) came on 31 minutes when Garett Breslin headed home a cross from Daryl Brown. Then, just four minutes later, Brown put Chris Moran through to chip Shaun Gallagher for 2-1 Bonagee.

There was a moment of debate on 38 minutes when John McGarvey went down in the penalty area under a challenge from Paddy O’Loan. Amid appeals for a penalty, referee Vincent McLoughlin booked McGarvey for diving.

On 63 minutes, Bonagee went 3-1 ahead courtesy of Dean Larkin’s header following a Ryan McFadden centre.

Twenty minutes from time, there was an altercation between Walsh and McFadden and both players were red carded.

McGarvey pulled one back on 80 minutes when he dispossessed O’Loan and steered past Gallagher.

Fanad had a couple of chances to draw with McGarvey’s header now strong enough and then Brian McVeigh shooting over.

Bonagee United: Eugene Ferry; Gareth Breslin, Paddy O’Loan, Darack Franowski, Declan Lynch; Ryan McFadden, Darren Hunter, Daryl Brown (Paul Ramsay 65); Aidan McLaughlin (Anthony Appiah 63), Dean Larkin (James Carlin 82).

Fanad United: Shaun Gallagher; James Gallagher (Darren Lynch 75), Shaun McElwaine, Chris Duffy, Eric Roberts; Brian McVeigh, Conor McGonagle (Paddy Carr 60), Declan McGarvey, Miley McBride (Keelin McElwaine 55); John McGarvey, Davitt Walsh.

Referee: Vincent McLoughlin.
