Sean McFadden second Irishman home at Ironman Copenhagen

SEAN MCFADDEN was the second Irish man home at Ironman Copenhagen on Sunday.

The Letterkenny 24/7 Triathlon Club member finished the course in 9:52:39 having completed the swim is a 3.8 km one-lap course in the lagoon at Amager Beach Park in 1:01:24, before clocking 4:54:37 for the 180km cycle.

Then, in front of crowds estimated to be in the region of 150,000, the competitors rounded Danish Parliament at Christiansborg Castle for the marathon (42.2km) conclusion in 3:49:41.

Martin Kirwan from Waterford was the leading Irishman in 9:36.13.

Letterkenny 24/7 was also represented by Damian McGoohan, who came home in 11:49:03 and Denis Shields from Glen, Carrigart, completed the course in 12:03:53.

Husband and wife Pauric and Margaret Kelly also fared well, with respective finishing times of 11:22:12 and 11:45:28.
