Sean Hume’s massive haul helps St Eunan’s to U-21 semi-final at Termon’s expense

SEAN HUME KICKED 1-10 in the swirling windy conditions of the Burn Road as St Eunan’s overcame Termon in the quarter-final of the County U-21 Football Championship.

Termon 1-5 St Eunan’s 1-16

The Letterkenny side, who are the reigning champions, made use of the wind in the first half to go in 0-9 to 0-1 in front.

Termon had a goal chance right at the end of the first half, which St Eunan’s goalkeeper Matthew Gallagher saved from James McSharry and that would’ve perhaps made for a more competitive second half.

Both teams had unconventional paths to the last eight. St Eunan’s got past Gaoth Dobhair after a no-show in Letterkenny from the Magheragallon  outfit, while Termon came through a disagreement over the scoreline in their fixture at Cloughaneely.

As it was, Termon did still make something of a fist of it after the break with Enda McCormick in particular finding his range with a couple of excellent long-range scores.

But by the time Daire McDaid scored a 53rd minute penalty after Darragh McWalters was penalised hauling down McCormick, St Eunan’s were still 0-15 to 1-4 ahead.

St Eunan’s, who were without the hamstrung Rory Carr, were just too strong over the pitch.

Just for good measure, Hume smashed home a goal at the other end three minutes later after good approach play from Conor Parke and Niall O’Donnell.

Hume’s abilities from placed balls lit up both halves with Barry McGeehin, Michael Miller, Darragh Mulgrew and Oisin Carr also scoring in the first half, while David Tyrell came off the bench to knock over after the break.
