Sean Houston will not be a part of the Finn Harps squad this season, Ollie Horgan has confirmed.

The 28-year-old midfielder, Harps’ player of the year in 2016, is unable to commit to the rigours of another season in the League of Ireland.

Houston played for Harps in their two season in the Premier Division, but the Letterkenny man has found juggling is various commitments to be too much.

“Sean has a job and he’s doing studies so he’s concentrating on that to be fair to him,” Harps boss Horgan said following today’s 1-1 draw with Derry City at The Warren.

“We would love him to come back, but he’s giving the priority to that.

“If Sean does go back playing football, I’d be hopeful he’d be back to us. We would welcome him back with open arms. He’s a great lad. He bought into what we wanted to do.

“I don’t think he will go and play football anywhere else. He just can’t commit at the moment.

“We’re concentrating on the panel we have and we have to go with that.”

Horgan, who was given a new two-year contract at Harps over the winter months, admitted that relegation had been a tough pill to swallow.

He said; “Getting relegated took its toll on everyone, including me and the staff. Every morning you wake up, that’s there – what you could have done differently.

“You have to move on and there’s no point feeling sorry. You have to keep going.”
