Seamus Coleman delighted to spend summer holidays in native Killybegs

Seamus Coleman is not your ordinary modern age Premier League footballer, in fact the Everton full-back stands out as a hard-working yet talented player who has no urge to get caught up in the celebrity lifestyle.

Coleman will once again spend his summer in Donegal this year and he credits the land he was born in for being able to forge the successful career that he has.

Entering almost ten years at Everton, Coleman has been consistently one of their best players since he made a man-of-the-match performance on his home debut against Spurs back in 2010. The Irish captain is one of the most popular footballers in England and often gets praised by rival supporters for his honest approach.

He told the Irish Daily Mail: “I love what I do, but there is a load of nonsense that goes with it. People want to know the ins and outs of your life.

“I just love football and training and winning games, and that’s where it ends. I go home then and I see my family and that’s me.”

He added: “It has always been about the job and playing football and giving my family a secure future.

“Young lads these days probably get too much too soon and need to be be very careful and be advised really carefully.”

Coleman will spend a month in Killybegs over the summer and he admits that this is something he enjoys to do with his wife and children each year to get away from the city life.

“‘You meet them out and they say you are such a normal lad. Why wouldn’t I be? I got reared very well by my parents.

“I lived at home until I was 17 and I never got sucked into the lifestyle.

“I wanted to be a footballer and play well, but you won’t see me rubbing my career or what I have or don’t have in people’s faces.

“But you have these kids who have maybe been in that football environment since they were 12 or the Irish lads who might go over when they’re 15.

“They might get sucked into feeling that they need to be something that they’re not, and that sticks with them.

“But for me, I’m at the stage of my life where I don’t need the fancy watches or clothes.

“I like a nice car and my house to be nice and I work really hard to provide that. But it’s not something I have longed for.”
