PORTSALON Golf Club has confirmed that the Scratch Cup goes ahead on Saturday 29th August with a Senior (0-9) and Intermediate (10-18) event over 18 holes including gross and net prizes.

This year’s event is very kindly sponsored by Manor Motors Opel, Letterkenny. Time sheet now available, entry is €10 members and €25 visitors.

Junior Golf

Kernaghan Cup / Shaw Shield Day, Thursday 20th August.

The Shaw Shield is open to under-18s with GUI Handicap, registration is in the Club Shop from 8.45am – 9.15am Thursday morning. The Kernaghan Cup is open to all non-handicap juniors from any golf club, registration is in the Club Shop from 9.45am – 10am.

Entry fee for both competitions is just €5 per player and includes lunch afterwards. Call us on 074-9159459 with any queries.

Team Golf

Good luck to Donal Callaghan Snr and his Ulster Cup players as they face a local derby against Letterkenny this Friday afternoon. The split venue tie takes place with four games in Barnhill and three in Portsalon.

Commiserations to Cathal Canning and the Donegal League side who saw their hopes dashed on Sunday last by North West GC. The visitors from Lisfannon picked up a crucial match in Portsalon and secured the two they required on the other side of Lough Swilly to progress into the semi-finals.

Club Matchplay

The Doubles Matchplay has reached the quarter-final stage and all competing teams are reminded to keep up with the deadlines. The top-half of the draw is headlined by an all-Ramelton battle. Kyle Burke’s scoring power has been on show recently. He and partner Michael Molloy took out Stuart and Noel Nicholl in the last-16 but are now going to face a showdown with David Fisher and Tony McNamee that will carry plenty bragging rights.

Cian Harkin and Adam Duncan dispatched reigning champions Ryan McGettigan and Ducky Callaghan in the previous round with some sublime golf and they face Charlie McCahill and Chuck McTaggart next. Further down, the always reliable pairing of Michael McFadden and Ian Morton square off against Daniel Shields and Gerry Hannan for a semi-final spot.

The Last-16 completion date for the Singles Matchplay is the 29th August and with three of the eight quarter-finalists already known, those lagging behind are encouraged to catch up.
