DEFENDER RYAN MCCONNELL’S permanent move to Irish League Premier Division side Ballinamallard from Finn Harps has been finalised.McConnell had been on loan at Ferney Park since the start of the season, but has now transferred permanently.

McConnell, a former Manchester United Under-21 captain and Republic of Ireland Under-21 player, had been given a contract at Harps for the 2017 season.

But the Letterkenny man, who couldn’t force a breakthrough into Ollie Horgan’s team last season, has put pen to paper at The Mallards.

Ballinamallard manager Gavin Dykes was Horgan’s assistant manager at Harps for the first half of 2016.

Richard Brush and Ryan Curran, who both played for Harps last season, have also made recent moves to Ballinamallard, while St Johnston man and ex-Harps midfielder Shane McGinty is at the club too.

A Ballinamallard statement said: “Defender Ryan McConnell has turned his initial loan spell at Ballinamallard into a permanent deal, signing from Finn Harps.

“Ryan has made 25 appearances this season and scored 1 goal, but his overall performances have been impressive and we are delighted to have him on board for the next 18 months.

“In other transfer news, striker Warner Mullen has rejoined the club from NIFL Championship side Loughgall. Warner has significant experience at Championship level with Dergview and Ballinamallard among his former clubs, and appeared in our friendly game against Sligo Rovers last night.”
