Rugby ace Nora Stapleton to get Civic Reception from Donegal County Council

Former Ireland rugby star Nora Stapleton is to be given a Civic Reception by Donegal County Council.

At its monthly meeting on Monday in Lifford, Councillors will debate a proposal to afford the Fahan native with a reception and are expected to unanimously back the suggestion.

Stapleton retired from international rugby last August after winning 50 caps for Ireland.

She bowed out after the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup. It was her third appearance on that stage having also played in 2010 and 2014.

After the World Cup in 2010, Stapleton – then with the Na Fianna club in Dublin – returned briefly to the GAA and played as Donegal beat Waterford that autumn in an All-Ireland Intermediate final at Croke Park.

Stapleton made her Ireland debut in 2010 in the Six Nations against Italy and went on to win two Six Nations titles and a Grand Slam in 2013.
