Rory Gallagher plays down return to Donegal with Fermanagh

Rory Gallagher returns to Sean MacCumhaill Park this evening with his Fermanagh side, looking to book a McKenna Cup semi-final berth.

Gallagher took over as manager of his home county in the weeks after stepping down as the Donegal manager in 2017.

And he has an early date with Donegal who he worked with for six of the previous seven years.

“It will be difficult walking into the away dressing-room but it’s the McKenna Cup, it’s not the most challenging of environments,” Gallagher told the BBC in an interview.

Fermanagh have already recorded wins over Monaghan and Queen’s, meaning they can guarantee themselves a place in the last four this evening.

Gallagher said: “Like Monaghan, Donegal are an established team in Division One, albeit they have some good players not available at the minute.”

“Both teams will be looking at new players and it will really just be a game for both teams.

“If we win we are in the semi-finals but at this stage you are looking for good performances.”

In spite of heavy fog around the county, indications from Ballybofey are good and the game is going ahead at 8pm.
