IT HAS been a record-breaking year for athletics in Donegal with some memorable performances across a variety of disciplines and championships.
2019 signalled not only a world class performance in the 50k at the World Championship in Doha by Brendan Boyce, but the Finn Valley AC man also set Donegal and Ulster records over 20k and 30k distances.
John Kelly broke similar ground in the shot at the European Throws meet in Leiria, Portugal; Lifford-Strabane AC’s Gareth Crawford set a fine new mark in the javelin and the Letterkenny AC pair Caitriona Jennings and Ann-Marie McGlynn also hit new heights.
Jennings set a new Irish 50k record at the IAU World Championships in Romania, while McGlynn smashed the course record at the Belfast Half Marathon in September.
Elsewhere, Finn Valley AC’s Bridget McDyre was added to the illustrious list with her weight for distance mark.
