Ramelton native Kieran Murray won a bronze medal at the World Transplant Games in Malaga.
Murray (above, left), who received a kidney transplant, won a bronze in the golf event in the 30-39 years category.
The father of three said: “It was very tough competition in strong heat. I’m delighted to win the bronze.
“This is my first world medal for Golf as I had previously won two gold medals for golf in the European Transplant and Dialysis Championships.”
Murray also competed in the men’s 5km road race on Monday and although he didn’t get placed in the top three he was happy with his time 19 minutes 22 seconds.
He said, “I’m delighted with my performance. I was aiming for under 20 minutes so I am very happy with 19.22 which is 11 seconds off my personal best. I thank my donor for getting me to here and being able to compete and enjoy the Games experience.”
The 21st World Transplant Games come to a close on Sunday, 2nd July. The Irish team of 27 athletes are competing among close to 1000 transplant recipients form over 50 countries. Every athlete at the World Transplant Games will have already received a kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas or bone marrow transplant.
The Irish Team will return home on Sunday 2nd July and their Ryanair flight is expected to land in Dublin airport at 5.30pm.
An informal homecoming reception by family, friends and supporters will take place in the Arrivals Hall (Terminal One) as the team are expected to come through after collecting baggage at 6pm.
