‘Extreme North’ aptly describes the unsettled weather conditions facing competitors after day 3 of the 4 day quadrathon event taking place across the Inishowen Pennisula.

Participants who travel from as far as America and mainland Europe to compete in this challenging event are running four marathons or four half marathons consecutively over 4 days.

The marathon route of day 3 began in Malin Town through Carndonagh, Clonmany through the breathtaking and gruelling Mamore Gap towards the finish line in Buncrana.

The leader board situation after day 3 has Brian McFlynn from Belfast in first place, followed by French competitor Francis Delassus in second place and local Nigel Davenport in third place.

Leading female in the marathon section is Deirdre Lynn.

In the half marathon Peter Dimbleby from the UK is leading the field from Aidan O’Neill, Co.Antrim and Paddy Ward from Convoy.  Leading female is Morag Thompson from Scotland.

No rest for these super fit runners who will be up bright and early for the finale of the 4 day event which will begin in Buncrana on Sunday morning.

The route will follow around south Inishowen and runners will enjoy further spectacular scenery as they run along the Foyle towards the finish line in Moville.

This event is popular for it’s terrain and breathtaking scenery.  The uncertainty of Irish weather certainly adds to the challenge but it is not enough to deter these courageous athletes who hail this event as one of the best.
