Portsalon Golf Club notes – DP Logue wins lady Captain Dana Clinton’s prize

It’s a busy golfing time at Portsalon Golf Club. On Saturday 25th July Ladies and Gents open competition The Charlie Canning Links Memorial.

On  Sunday 26th its a members competition. On Wednesday 29th  its a gents open stableford competition.  On Saturday 1st August the course is reserved for the Motor Neuron Golf Classic, for further information contact the clubhouse. On Sunday 2nd August there is a Ladies and gents open competition sponsored by Brian Mc Cormick Sports Letterkenny.

Monday 3rd August it’s the Barton Cup, Members should note that the timesheet is now open for  Paul Armstrong’s Captains Day which is on Saturday 8th August.  On Saturday 15th    Garrett Horkan’s Presidents Day will take place. Barton Cup

One of the oldest match play competitions in the North West will be staged on the August bank holiday 3rd August at Portsalon Golf Club as both members and visitors will contest for the prestigious Barton Cup. The Barton Cup which was first staged in 1899 and has been a regular favourite event for both members and visitors to Portsalon over the years.

This is an open match play event. All who are going to participate must have their names entered on the Barton Cup sheet which is available in the clubhouse by Sunday 2nd  August  this will enable the first round draw to take place. The first tee is reserved for this prestigious event and the competition gets underway from early morning.

In order to have the matches played all players are asked to be on time. For those defeated in first round of the Barton Cup they will be entered into the Mc Menamin Plate. For further details contact 074 9159459

Team News

The Portsalon over 50’s team entertained Letterkenny in the return leg of the over 50’s. Having secured two matches from the first leg it was still not enough as a very strong Letterkenny team collected two and half matches and go forward to the semi final. The team captain Donal Callaghan would like to thank all the players who represented Portsalon Golf Club in this years competition and wishes Letterkenny every success in the next round.

had the  the short journey to Letterkenny on Friday evening for the first leg match. Under the leadership of Donal Callaghan senior  the Portsalon team emmerged with two matches to Letterkenny’s three matches. In the Ulster Cup Portsalon will entertain Cloverhill Co Armagh in the first leg match on Saturday 25th.

 

The winner of the Wednesday open staged on 15th July which was sponsored by Allied Irish Bank was David Deeney (14) Portsalon  38 points Runner up  Peter O’Donnell (23) 37 points Gross: Eamonn Mc Dermott (3) Portsalon 30 points, Third: Pat Flynn (20) Portsalon 35 points B.O.T. The CSS was 35 points.

On Saturday last Portsalon members contested for the Lady Captain Dana Clinton’s prize. The winner of the gents section was DP Logue with 37 points BOT, runner up Sean Barrett (17) 37 points   gross Eamon Mc Dermott (3) 27 points 3rd  John Masterson (27) 36 points.

The CSS was 34 points. In the members competition staged on Sunday 19th the winner was Anthony Toland (17) 38 points, runner up Aidan Langan (13) 37 points, gross Colm Mc Conigley  30 points 3rd Eunan Mc Glynn  35 points, The CSS was 35 points.

Congratulations to Pamela Clinton Mc Dermott on winning her sister’s Dana Clinton’s Lady Captains prize at Portsalon Golf Club.

Charity Day

Have you heard about the inaugural Portsalon Golf Club Charity Day taking place on Saturday 29th August. If not this is how it works: The Top 3 players in each Wednesday Open (1/5/2015- 26/8/2015) will qualify to play on the day and the prize winners on the day will receive a considerable donation to their nominated charity, this enables each player to select a charity that is close to their heart. The qualifiers so far are: Joe Coyle, Bernard Nash, Kevin McFadden, Joe Harkin, Keith Shiels, Andy Boland, Kristoffer McFadden, Patrick McFadden, Billy Walsh, Barry Keeney, Jamie Foley, Michael Crilly,Sam Faulkner and Davey Deeney.

Special Draw

The Portsalon Golf Clubs members draw continues.  How to enter, it’s easy just €10 per month entries can be made at either the Portsalon Golf Shop or at the Portsalon Golf Clubhouse bar.  There is no commitment to pay/play each month as the income each month will be divided equally between the fund prize and the club. Prizes on offer will depend on the amount of cash in the fund monthly basis.

The draw will take place on the last Saturday of each month so why not have a go. If you require any further details contact John Strain or Dermot Boyce or any committee member. The results from the June draw winner Tom Waters, 2nd Ollie Connolly, 3rd Pat O’Neill, 4th Clare Mc Gonagle.
