Letterkenny 24/7 Triathlon Club went international this weekend as Nick Fowell, Margaret Kelly and Pauric Kelly jetted off to compete in the Mallorca 70.3 which took place in the town of Alcudia. 

Nick finished in a superb time of 4:49:14, with a swim time of 28:38 and a very impressive 1:39 half marathon off the bike.

Pauric Kelly also had a brilliant race finishing strongly in a time of 5:30:37. Margaret Kelly finished in 5:39:36 a brilliant 10th in her age category.

National Aquathon Championships 

This year’s National Aquathon Championships took place at Bull Wall in Dublin as part of the Base 2 Race Pulse Triathlon Club Aquathon Festival on Sunday. Once again, our junior members had some great success.

Jonathan Martin was 3rd in the Junior Aquathon in a time of 34:48.

Orlaith Fogarty also had a super race finishing 3rd F20-24 with a brilliant time of 44:02.

Donegal Senior Track and Field Championships

More junior success for 24/7 -Junior member Ben Carr, representing FVAC, won Gold in the 1500m event at the Donegal Senior Track and Field Championships.

Strabane Lifford Half Marathon

The annual Strabane Lifford Half Marathon took place in perfect running conditions on Sunday morning.

Aidan Callaghan, showing great return to form, had a brilliant race finishing 6th Overall in 1:18:27.  Philip Browne had a PB performance finishing in 1:38:33, showing his training for Talin is certainly paying off. Ita McGettigan also had a PB of 1:43:10, superb running after her recent recovery from an injury, Ita is preparing well for her 70.3 debut in Sheephaven.

Her running buddies on the day Keith Gordon,1:43:21 and birthday boy Alaistair Hetherington, 1:43:23, also finished strongly. Paul Kelly, less than 24 hours after competing in the Roe Valley Sprint triathlon ran an impressive 1:49:29. Graham Parker had a great run also with a time of 2:02:42.

Roe Valley Sprint Triathlon 

Triangle Triathon Club in Limavady hosted the annual Roe Valley Sprint Triathlon on Saturday. Well done to Mickey Russell who crossed the line in 1:16:56 and Paul Kelly who had a brilliant time of 1:29:39.

WAAR

The annual and very popular WAAR adventure race took place in Annagry on Saturday. Over 600 competitors took to the start line and as always 24/7 was very well represented with lots of waariors taking on the many different events.

Ronan Brennan was the first 24/7 member to complete the full WAAR course which comprised of 56.5k in total- 10K Run, 42.5K Cycle, 2k Hike and 1k Kayak.

Ronan finished in a time of 2:42:26.

Colin Dean was next in 2:50:26. Siobhan Gallagher had a brilliant race finishing in 2:51:20, 2nd Female overall, agonizingly just 9 second behind the winner.  Damien O’Domhnaill had a great race in 3:02:04.

Fionnuala Larkin, finished 7th female overall in 3:08:38 – a very tight race just seconds separating 5th,6th and 7th positions. Fresh from his team Race performance Barry Foley had a brilliant solo performance finishing in 3:19:33. Peter McLean had a very strong performance crossing the line in 3:29:54, prepping him well for his 70.3 debut later in the Summer.

In the Sprint event, which comprised of a 5K Run, 33K Cycle, and 1k Kayak, Donagh O’ Sullivan finished 5th Overallwith a very strong performance in 1:37:13. Conor McLaughlin had a great race crossing the line in 1:42:42.

Anne Robinson had a very impressive sprint event win finishing almost 2 and half minutes ahead of her nearest competitor. Anne was crowned first female in a superb time of 1:50:13.

Martina O’Donnell had another strong performance finishing in 2:07:56. Cathy Harvey, a WAAR regular, had a brilliant time finishing strongly in 2:15:26.

There was also a 24/7 winner in the team duathlon event. Well done to Shaun McDevitt who was part of the 2-person team who won the duathlon event in 1:58:39.

Kilmacrenan 5k

Well done to Sean McFadden who was 3rd place in Tuesday’s Kilmac 5k in a time of 17:28. Colm Corcoran, preparing for the Ultra 555 on June 22nd had a break from the bike and finished in an excellent 21:48. Aidan McFadden also had a brilliant run in 23:31.

Colaiste Ailigh 5k

Michael Black was 2nd place in Wednesday’s Colaiste Ailigh 5k with a super time of 16:22.

Michael Russell had a great run finishing in 20:51.

Niamh Gibbons was 3rd female in 21:28, another PB for Niamh this season. Well done also to Labhaoise Maguire, 24:42, Feena McBride, 25:42, Fiona Temple, 25:53 – all with PB’s and Bridie Devenney, 31:21-Super running from 24/7.

Club Notes

A reminder as we approach the busy season it can be hard to stay on top of our 180+ members so please ensure if you are competing in events and would like anything included in club notes to send race results to PRO Fiona McDaid no later than Sunday night for inclusion in notes that week, thanks!

Gartan Open Water Swimming 

Gartan open water swimming sessions will commence next Monday 21st May @ 6.30pm.

Anyone who has not swam in the open water before or who is nervous, is asked to please come along as there will be an open water swim safety induction on Monday night.

All members are reminded that swimming in the lake on a Monday night is from 6.30pm and you must exit the water no later than 7.30.pm.  All members must sign in and out of the water.

This year there will be a designated swim course set up by Gartan Outdoor and this will be the only area members will be allowed to swim in.  We will have kayak cover in the water and a marshal on the shore.  Wetsuits, and bright swim caps are COMPULSARY and anyone who is not a confident swimmer is urged to use a swim buoy.

Club Training

Club training continues as follows:

Monday: Open Water swim session will commence Monday 21st May @ 6.30pm.

Tuesday:  This week sessions incorporates Inter Firms 5k- warmup leaving from Aura at 7pm

Wednesday: Swim session- Beginners 7-8pm, All others 8-9pm

Thursday: TT session 7pm sharp from Foxhall -Marshals: Lead Marshal-Siobhan Gallagher, Amanda Witherow, Caroline McCabe.

Members please remind yourselves of TT rules- these will be strictly enforced!

Saturday: Club cycle leaves from Aura at 8am

Saturday: Club swim session Saturday at 6pm Additional lane added for 14-16yr old club members- MUST be accompanied by a parent (please note prepayment does not cover Saturday swim)
