Ten Letterkenny 24/7 club members made the journey to Mullingar over the weekend for the Caroline Kearney Memorial triathlon hosted by the Midlands Tri Club.

This race played host to the National Standard distance championships and an impressive field raced on the day. Over 500 athletes took to the waters of Lake Ennell at the Lilliput Adventure Centre.

Siobhan Gallagher was the first 24/7 female to finish the course. Siobhan was fourth female overall and winner of the F25-29 category in a very impressive time of 2:19:45.

Paul Doherty raced well finishing in 2:22:34, Paul’s strong swim setting him up for a brilliant race overall. Margaret Kelly’s preparation for her World Championships in Tennessee are going very well. Margaret finished in a time of 2:27:51 placing her 3rd in the F45-49 category.

Anne Robinson raced well, after an excellent swim time, continued her great form on the bike route and ran well to finish in an impressive 2:34:52.

Margaret Kelly Chattanooga World Championships Fund Raising Duathlon

Preparations are well under way for our next club race. The club are making a call out to all business owners in the club. If you would like to donate a spot prize for the race, please get in touch with any committee member. Thank you in advance.

As most of you may already know, Margaret Kelly will be competing in the 70.3 World championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee on 9th September. Margaret’s excellent performance at the 70.3 in Wiesbaden Germany in August last year ensured qualification for this year’s World Championships. It is not every year that a club member qualifies for such an event so with this in mind we are organising a fund raising duathlon to help with the expenses incurred for this event.

The sprint distance-3.2km run – 16km Bike – 3.2km run- triathlon will take place on Sunday 27th August from St Eunans GAA grounds. This event is open to everyone, no TI licence required, relay teams welcome and donation on the day is the fee for the event so please spread the word. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
