THE GREAT and the good of Donegal sport gathered last night in the Mount Errigal Hotel to toast the 2019 Donegal Sports Star Awards.

Some 40 award winners, which were picked from a whopping 180 nominations, were honoured in front of a sell-out crowd of 600.

Former world champion race walker Rob Heffernan was the special guest on a night when Brendan Boyce – who Heffernan coaches in Cork – was named as the overall 2019 Donegal Sports Star Award winner.

Author of 'Boxing In Donegal: A History (2021)' - the definitive history of the sport in County Donegal - and 'Relentless: A Race Through Time', the 2019 memoir of former Irish Athletics Team Manager Patsy McGonagle. From St Johnston and now based in Letterkenny, Chris was a nominee for NUJ Sports Journalist of the Year in 2010. Honoured by the Donegal Boxing Board in 2016 for his coverage on the sport.
