PAUL Hegarty insists that Finn Harps will ‘have a go’ when they head to Dundalk this weekend.
After a 1-1 draw with Cork City on Sunday, Harps remain just a point ahead of the Leessiders and now face two mammoth tests, with Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers next up.
Games are running out for Harps – who currently occupy the play-off spot – in the battle to survive in the top flight.
“It’s a difficult fortnight,” assistant manager Hegarty said.
“We’ll go to Dundalk to try ad win the match. If you sit in and lose 1-0 a morale victory is no good. We’ll go and have a go to see where it takes us.”
The Ballindrait man conceded that Sunday’s stalemate, when Raffaele Cretaro rescued a point for Harps after Dylan McGlade put Cork in front, was a chance missed for Harps.
He said: “We were looking to close the gap on the teams above us. We didn’t play well enough on the day. It was a dour game and a draw was a fair result.
“I felt it was an opportunity lost. I felt the game was there to be won and we could have nicked it. Would that have been a fair result? I’m not so sure.
“We tried to go for it. We pushed on to try and get a winner.
““The players keep pushing and they came back from behind. They make it difficult for themselves. We didn’t play as well as we can and that’s disappointing.
“Every game takes on its own format. The game didn’t pan out how we expected. I don’t think we deserved any more than we got.”
