PAUL HEGARTY is set to remain on as Ollie Horgan’s assistant manager at Finn Harps for 2017.

The Ballindrait man was recruited by Horgan in June following the departure of Gavin Dykes from the number 2 role in Ballybofey.

Having initially agreed to the job as ‘a dig out’ Hegarty will now be in the dug out again next season.

The former Harps and Derry midfielder was Harps manager from December 2006 until May 2009.

In that time, he guided Harps to promotion in 2007 and stayed on after relegation in 2008 before leaving the role in 2009.

Hegarty has previously managed Institute and was caretaker manager of Derry City for the latter part of the 2015 season following Peter Hutton’s departure from the Brandywell.

He opted not to take the Derry job on a full-time basis after that period.

Hegarty is working closely with Horgan on the recruitment of players.

Harps have secured the services of Ciaran Coll, Gareth Harkin, Ethan Boyle and Danny Morrissey for next season, while Ryan McConnell – on loan at Ballinamallard United – is also under contract.
