PATRICK McBrearty is poised to make his Donegal return at Croke Park on Saturday night.

McBrearty is expected to be included in the Donegal squad to face Dublin in their next Division 1 outing (throw-in 7pm).

The Kilcar man, an All-Star nominee in 2019, had spent a couple of months in America from November.

In the days after Donegal’s first League fixture, a draw with Mayo, McBrearty was back training with Donegal.

Now, the 2012 All-Ireland winner is ready for game time again.

“We’re hoping to have Patrick this week,” Donegal boss Declan Bonner said.

“He has been back in training for the last couple of weeks so we hope he’ll be in the 26-man squad.”

Midfielder Hugh McFadden, who missed Donegal’s defeat to Galway through a knock, will be back in contention.

Caolan McGonagle picked up an injury that forced him off at half-time against Galway, but the Buncrana man has been back in training in recent days.

Bonner said: “We won’t rush anyone back. The medical team are the experts and we the the advice from them. We’re hoping to have some faces back for Saturday night.”

Donegal blew a seven-point lead in the loss to Galway after seeing Mayo snatch a draw with a last-gasp James Durcan goal on the opening night.

The Donegal manager said: “We have a huge four or five weeks ahead of us.

“You can’t beat games of this quality. The lads who are coming in are getting a lot of exposure to top-class games.  We’re trying to gel a squad together now with the older lads too.”
