RONAN Curtis provided two assists as Portsmouth moved into League One’s play-off spots this afternoon.

The St Johnston was was to the fore as Pompey defeated Sunderland, moving above their opponents into sixth spot.

Christian Burgess netted the first on 25 minutes and James Bolton’s second, seven minutes into the second half, made the win safe.

There were nine added minutes at the end of the game after a nasty collision resulted in Sunderlands’ Joel Lynch being taken off on a stretcher.

Last night, Curtis  – who has already scored 13 goals this season – was given the International Achievement Award at the 2019 Donegal Sports Star Awards. The award was accepted on his behalf by his sister Charmaine with the Republic of Ireland international speaking via a pre-recorded video.

And he was on song at Fratton Park. It was via his delicious delivery, from a free kick, that Burgess was able to head home the opener.

For Bolton’s goal, it was another Curtis cross, this one from a corner, that teed up the chance.

Also in League One today, Stephen McLaughlin played the 90 minutes as Southend defeated Lincoln City. Southend remain 12 points from safety in the relegation places at the foot of the standings.

In League Two, Conrad Logan was in goal as Forest Green Rovers drew away to Grimsby Town at Blundell Park, while Dale Gorman was an unused substitute as Newport County lost 1-0 to Plymouth at Home Park.
