Paddy Carr in Magheragallon as Fanad native considers Donegal vacancy

Paddy Carr was in Magheragallon this evening to watch the Gaoth Dobhair-Glenswilly game in the Donegal SFC as he mulls over the Donegal senior football team manager’s team.

The Fanad native was at the big game of the weekend, but has not yet had been officially nominated for the role vacated by Rory Gallagher earlier this month.

Carr attended Gaoth Dobhair’s 1-7 to 0-5 win over Glenswilly and was seen in conversation with Michael Murphy and Neil McGee.

“Paddy is still considering the position,” a source said.

“Paddy has not made any commitment nor has he sought a nomination yet.”

It now seems likely that Carr will be nominated by the Gaeil Fhánada club before Saturday’s deadline.

Carr, based in County Meath, was previously nominated and interviewed for the role in 2014, when Gallagher was selected. Prior to Jim McGuinness being appointed in 2010, Carr was the only other candidate said to have given an application any serious thought.

A son of Barney and Dot Carr, originally from Shanagh in Fanad, he has been residing away from Donegal since a young age.

He played for Donegal in the 1980 Ulster SFC and has managed the Louth seniors and the Meath minor footballers.

Carr is currently managing Ballymun Kickhams in Dublin.
