Outstanding games in GAA calendar branded ‘insane’ at Convention

THE SITUATION THAT sees a number of important games still left to play in the Donegal GAA calendar has been branded as ‘insanity’.

Bundoran club delegate Mickey McMahon was speaking at County Convention.

Two weeks from Christmas, the Under-21 ‘A’ Football Championship semi-final between St Eunan’s and Aodh Ruadh; the final of that competition; the Under-21 ‘B’ Football Championship final; the Under-21 Hurling Championship final; and the Division 1/2 relegation-promotion play-off between Four Masters and Bundoran have yet to be played.

“It is disappointing that there are still some games outstanding,” McMahon said.

“Clubs started training away back in January and they are still playing and travelling to play in the muck. For half of the summer, club players are playing no football.

“Players are getting fed up. I know, Bundoran players are getting fed up and I spoke to Four Masters players as recently as last night – they’re getting fed up, too.

“It is insanity to ask players to go out and play now. We are back-tracking in everything that we do. The thing is a total mess.”
