An open day for budding cricketers in the Letterkenny area will be held this evening at St Eunan’s College.
The open day takes place from 6-8pm.
The event is being organised by Rammohan Good, an Indian who plays for St Johnston Cricket Club and who has been living in Letterkenny since 2004.
Good has recently begun cricket sessions in Letterkenny and this evening’s event – supported by Cricket Ireland, Northwest Cricket Union and Donegal Sports Partnership – is the next step.
“There is a big cricket interest in Letterkenny since 2005 and we have been playing hard tennis ball cricket as well in St Eunans all weather ground,” he says.
“Last year there were around 60 Letterkenny players participated in hard tennis ball cricket at St Eunans ground.
“We have started kids training in Aura and at the moment we have around 18 kids but we could not get a ground to start leather ball cricket.
“However, last month st Eunan’s school contacted us to start cricket in St Eunans school and agreed to provide facilities to start cricket in Letterkenny.”
The open day is free and is open to everyone.
Goud says: “This is a big boost for all us and hopefully cricket will flourish in Letterkenny in coming years.”
