Maureen O’Donnell has follower in her father’s footsteps by taking on the role of Termon senior ladies team manager.

By James Trearty

O’Donnell’s team got off to a winning start at the weekend with a 4-13 to 1-3 win over Realt Rua, the Bundoran-Aodh Ruadh amalgamation.

O’Donnell’s father, James C O’Donnell, previously managed the Termon ladies – and now ‘Mo’ is calling the shots.

An All-Ireland winner with Termon in 2014, O’Donnell will hope to keep the Burn Road side challenging for honours.

The future seems bright as, lining out without her Donegal panelists, she saw her team record a 19-point win.

Termon got off to a perfect start with an Eileen Trearty point, but Maura Flora Scott leveled.

Petra McCafferty chipped in with a neat point, but Termon needed some stout defending by Sarah Kho, Meabh McDaid and Hannah McSharry to keep their visitors at bay.

O’Donnell moved McCafferty to midfield to stem the flow and the home side took command.

Points by Maria Carr and McCafferty pointed before the hosts were denied a goal after the move of the match.

Eimear Alcorn collected the ball well in her own half and made ground towards Murray’s Sheds. She off-loaded to Hollie McDaid, who found Orla Blades. Blades’ effort was turned over by Natasha Gormley.

McCafferty, Carr, Shannon McLaughlin and Blades put Termon 0-9 to 0-1 ahead at the break.

Termon’s first goal arrived when Hollie McDaid charged down a clearance by Gormley and the ball landed in the net.
