Odhrán Mac Niallais scores four as Gweedore Celtic win play-off

Odhrán Mac Niallais scored all four goals to keep Gweedore Celtic in Division One of the Donegal League.

Gweedore Celtic 4 Raphoe Town 1 (after extra-time)

In a promotion-relegation play-off with Division Two side Raphoe Town, Mac Niallais was the hero of the hour for the west Donegal men.

Mac Niallais has decided not to make himself available for Declan Bonner’s Donegal squad this year. Mac Niallais sparkled at the Diamond Park in Ballyare to prevent Gweedore Celtic from making the drop.

Their Division One status was on the line and they certainly wanted to maintain their presence in the middle grade of the Donegal Junior League.

Raphoe Town had aspirations of their own however and fancied their chances of stepping up to the next rung of the ladder.

Mac Niallais had Gweedore in front, only for Christy Bogle’s late, late penalty to force extra time.
Raphoe had their goalkeeper Roy Duffy sent off in the first half.

In extra time, Mac Niallais – who was a target for Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan a couple of seasons ago – starred as Gweedore stay up.
