DARACH O’CONNOR IS in line to make his first competitive appearance since rupturing a cruciate knee ligament this weekend.

The 20-year-old forward is understood to be ready to play for Buncrana against Burt in their AllSportStore.com All-County Football League Division 3 clash at The Scarvey on Sunday afternoon.

O’Connor has returned to full training with Donegal in recent weeks and is well on track to be fit for the June 12 Ulster SFC opener against Fermanagh in Ballybofey.

O’Connor went under the knife at the Santry Sports Clinic in October for surgery on the injury and missed Donegal’s Dr McKenna Cup and Allianz League campaigns, as well as the Ulster Under-21 Football Championship.

O’Connor started the 2014 Ulster and All-Ireland football finals and a goal against Antrim in that year’s Ulster semi-final was a real highlight.

An appearance as a sub in last year’s Ulster final against Monaghan was his only SFC game of 2015.

Now, though, the diminutive flyer is set to make a long-awaited return to action as Buncrana – third placed in Division 3 and five points off Aodh Ruadh – look to keep up their promotion bid.
