Nothing to separate Milford and Aodh Ruadh in Intermediate quarter-final

KYLE BLACK POPPED up with a levelling score, five minutes into added time, to earn Milford an Intermediate Championship quarter-final replay with Aodh Ruadh.

Milford 0-13 Aodh Ruadh 1-10

Beneath the glow of the floodlights at Pairc Naomh Mhuire in Convoy, it seemed as if Aodh Ruadh were destined for the semi-finals until Milford struck with a last-gasp equaliser from Black (pictured above) to earn another bite.

Michael ‘Sticky’ Ward’s free had Aodh Ruadh a point up, but Black drilled over after taking receipt of Pauric Curley’s pass. It was no more than Milford deserved, but Aodh Ruadh will be aggrieved that they couldn’t hold onto their lot so late in the day.

Milford roared into an early 0-4 to 0-1 lead with Cathal McGettigan (2), Kieran McLaughlin and Christopher Barrett on the mark.

Diarmaid McInerney and TJ Evesson swapped scores and, midway through the half, Aodh Ruad got the kickstart they needed when Seamus Kane fired past Sean Gallagher for a goal that ignited their challenge.

With McInerney, Ward and Dolan on the mark, they burst four clear only for Enda McHugh’s point leaving just the goal between them at the short whistle.

Half-time replacements Luke Barrett and Darragh Black reduced the arrears even further after the re-start and McGettigan brought Milford level.

Ten minutes from time, Peter Boyle stepped forth to put over a ’45 that had Aodh Ruadh in front again.

Luke Barrett leveled it up again and McGettigan inched Milford in front, only for the Moyle View men to suffer a real blow when a second yellow card put an end to Joey Cullen’s evening.

When Darragh Black put two in it, Milford were in command, but in the ensuing drama they were thankful for a little length being added and Kyle Black’s score means they must do it all again.
