New PB brings Gribbin back with a bang as Gallen has snow success

MOLLIE Gribbin set an impressive new personal best overnight in Nebraska.

The Finn Valley AC triple jumper recorded a new indoor mark of 13.01 metres.

At an invitational track and field in Lincoln, Nebraska, Gribbin – the silver medalist in the women’s long jump at the 2019 Irish Senior Championships – outlined her worth.

Off a 13-stride run-up, Gribbin leapt to a new distance, which represents a very encouraging return from a long injury lay-off.

In 2019, Gribbin underwent corrective surgery after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament.

At the same meet, Gribbin – recruited by Finn Valley just before the 2019 Irish Seniors – jumped a 5.95m long jump.

Both are top of the rankings for an Irish athlete in 2021 and will hope to get a chance to showcase her talents further this year.

It has been a positive couple of days in the States with another Finn Valley man, Oisin Gallen, helping his University of Tennessee at Martin cross country teams to first place at the Golden Eagle Invitational.

On a snowy course, Gallen crossed the line in 23:30.2 to finish fifth. Gallen was the third scorer as UT Martin’s men won the event for the first time.
