NEW CAPTAIN NIAMH HEGARTY led the way as Donegal ladies won their second game of 2016.

Donegal 4-11 Laois 1-03

The Moville woman, playing on her home pitch, scored the first and last goals of the day as Michael Naughton’s team swatted aside Laois.

After defeating Westmeath last Sunday, Donegal followed up with a superb win by the Foyle.

Hegarty surged through the heart of the Laois rearguard to power in a first goal for the Tir Chonaill side.

When Geraldine McLaughlin finished a second goal, Donegal led 2-1 to 0-1 and they stretched the advantage to 2-8 to 0-1 by the half-time whistle.

Ten minutes into second half, Yvonne McMonagle bagged Donegal’s third goal and the afternoon ended how it began with Hegarty netting to seal the win.

Donegal: Laura Gallagher; Treasa Doherty, Emer Gallagher, Nicole McLaughlin; Deirdre Foley, Ciara Hegarty, Therese McCafferty; Katy Herron, Shannon McGroddy; Karen Guthrie (0-3), Niamh Hegarty (2-0), Niamh McLaughlin; Eilish Ward (0-2), Yvonne McMonagle (1-3), Geraldine McLaughlin (1-3). Subs used: Roisin Friel, Grainne Houston, Kelly Wilson, Emma McCroary, Roisin Curran.
