NAOMH PADRAIG, MUFF overcame Red Hughs last night to join the Killygordon outfit at the top of the AllSportStore.com All-County Football League Division 4.

Naomh Padraig, Muff 2-10 Red Hughs 1-9

Aidan Lynch and Dara McConway scored the goals, immediately after one another, in the second half to take the Inishowen men to the top, just ahead of Red Hughs on points difference.

Damien Diver opened the scoring on two minutes for the Muff men with a well taken point and two minutes later Damien Brown levelled from a free, the first of four points from frees from the Killygordon man on the night.

A well contested game saw the two sides contesting strongly with both goalkeepers doing well to deny first Lynch of Muff and then Calvin Bradley of Red Hughs what looked like certain goals.

A second Diver point on 15 minutes was followed immediately by a fine strike from James Carlin to level score and within minutes both teams were 3-3.

Naomh Padraig started to pull ahead with scores from Diver again and Colm McColgan.

Further Muff points from Lynch, Diver and McConway were answered by Red Hugh, but the Muff men went in 8-5 up at half-time.

The second half started well for Red Hughs with a Brown point from a free, but then following a tremendous block from Gary McKinney in his own goalmouth, the ball was worked down field where Lynch burst the net for a Muff goal and it was 1-9 to 0-6 to the peninsula boys.

This was followed less than one minute later by a second Muff goal, this time for McConway.

Two goals within a minute might have totally discouraged any other team but not Red Hughs and a series of frees saw three points on the trot for the Killygordon men and Muff were looking uncomfortable.

Anto McColgan pegged one back for Naomh Padraig on 55 minutes, but then a penalty was awarded to Red Hughs just at the end of normal time and Bradley stroked his opportunity past Joe .

That was to be the last score, despite Red Hughs finishing strongly, and Naomh Padraig won by four.
