Naomh Conaill lodge appeal over 2020 final replay decision

THE Ulster Hearings Committee will hear an appeal by Naomh Conaill over the decision of the Donegal Competitions Controls Committee (CCC) to replay the 2020 Donegal SFC final.

Naomh Conaill submitted their appeal to the provincial council before last night’s deadline.

On Sunday evening, the Donegal CCC ordered that the controversial game be replayed after upholding an appeal by Kilcar, who contested that Naomh Conaill fielded four substitutes – rather than the permitted three – during extra time in the August 14 decider.

Naomh Conaill won 4-2 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out following a 2-7 to 0-13 draw after extra time at Sean MacCumhaill Park.

In the days after the game, Kilcar asked the CCC to probe a possible breach of regulation.

The replayed final has been pencilled in for next Wednesday, September 8, in Ballybofey with TG4 set to broadcast the game via their YouTube channel.

It is understood that the Ulster Hearings Committee will hear Naomh Conaill’s appeal on Saturday.

After a decision is conveyed, the relevant parties will have a further three days to respond.

The appeals procedure allows for a case to be taken to the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA) should any of the parties be dissatisfied with the internal bodies’ ruling.

The 2021 Donegal SFC is due to get underway on the weekend ending September 12.
