RIGHT FROM THE throw-in, Naomh Conaill lumped a ball into the Ardara square and Ciaran Thompson fisted home a goal last night at Davy Brennan Memorial Park.

Naomh Conaill 3-10 Ardara 0-12

It set the tone for the evening as the Glenties side, who defeated Ardara in the final of the Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta Tír Chonaill on Bank Holiday Monday, repeated the trick in wet and windy conditions.

Following that early goal, Naomh Conaill went onto kick five points on the spin with Dara Gallagher on the mark, Dermot Molloy scoring twice, John O’Malley and Seamus Corcoran setting up an eight-point lead for the county champions by only the eighth minute.

Seamus Gallagher’s team did manage to steady the flow somewhat when Gareth Concarr kicked over three frees but a fine goal by John O’Malley on 24 minutes put Naomh Conaill into a commanding 2-6 to 0-4 advantage.

At half-time it was 2-7 to 0-6 for the home side.

O’Malley opened the scoring at the start of the second half and whatever lingering doubts that might’ve remained were gone by the 36th minute when Seamus Corcoran beat Aaron Bennett for a third Naomh Conaill goal.

Molloy’s point in the 45th minute was the last that Naomh Conaill would score – making it 3-10 to 0-8 – and although Concarr posted four late frees at the end, it was still a comfortable victory in the end.

Naomh Conaill: Tony Byrne; Stephen Molloy, Jason Campbell, Ultan Doherty; Marty Boyle, Cathal Ellis, Kevin McGettigan; Seamus Corcoran (1-1), Antony Thompson (0-1); Ethan O’Donnell, Dara Gallagher (0-1), Eunan Doherty; John O’Malley (1-2, 2f), Ciaran Thompson (1-1), Dermot Molloy (0-3, 1f). Subs: Charles McGuinness (0-1) for Gallagher (half-time), Aaron Thompson for O’Malley (34), Logan Quinn for Anthony Thompson (59), Hugh Gallagher for Boyle (60).
