Naomh Brid storm into quarter finals as they earn victory over Red Hughs

Naomh Brid secured their place in the last eight of the Donegal Intermediate Championship as they put in an emphatic display against Red Hughs in Trummon on Saturday night.

Naomh Brid 0-14 Red Hughs 1-07

With Red Hughs already qualified for the quarter-finals, the Ballintra side knew they needed to hit the ground running and with Darragh Brogan among the Naomh Brid ranks they proved to be as formidable as ever.

Red Hughs manager Benji O’Meara was without the suspended Stephen McMenamin but they showed plenty of heart with Jack Gillespie clinching the only goal of the contest and Peadar McGlinchey and Tim Callaghan racking up seven points between them.

But it proved too much for Red Hughs with Matt Gallagher’s outfit playing at a ferocious pace, Brogan securing six fine scores of his own in conjunction with points for Eoin Quinn, Eoin Rush and Ryan Brogan.

And O’Meara’s side has been in fine form throughout the IFC and they were unlucky not to come away with a victory against Cloughaneely in the opening weekend.

However, they were finely tuned here and fatally they put their Killygordon opposition to the sword when Callum Gallagher and Gearoid Gallagher epitomised Naomh Brid’s hard-working mentality to share five scores and the result.

Naomh Brid: Pauric McDaid, Liam Duffy,Sam Burgess, Jamie Timoney, Clint Walsh, Ross Gallagher, Eoin Quinn(0-1), Tommy Gallagher, Sean Gormley, Gary Mc Cafferty, Gearoid Gallagher(0-2), Darragh Brogan(0-6),Ryan Brogan(0-1), Calum Gallagher(0-3), Declan Mc Cafferty

Subs used: Eoin rush (0-1) for Eoin Quinn (40), Eoin McGarrigle for Tommy Gallagher (45), Michael Gallagher for Declan Mc Cafferty (55)

Red Hughs: Luke Kelly; Shane McGlinchey, Thomas McMenamin, Shane Gallagher; Jason Callaghan, Pauric McMenamin, Peadar McGlinchey (0-3), Odhran Doherty, Ryan Bradley, Colm Melaugh, Jack Gillespie (1-0)/ Calvin Bradley, Daire McMenamin, Tim Callaghan (0-4), Denim Rowan.
