MITCHELL McLaughlin says he is ‘excited’ for what lies ahead in 2021 after signing with a new professional team.

McLaughlin was today confirmed as part of the SwiftCarbon Pro team for next season.

Team SwiftCarbon, based in Yorkshire, will continue as a UCI Continental Team for 2021, racing in some top events across Europe.

“I am really excited to be riding with SwiftCarbon pro cycling,” McLaughlin told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“There are some serious big pro races that I will hopefully be riding in 2021.

“This year was a really tough year. Only for friends, family, sponsors, my coach and my team I would not be here today with my new team.”

In October, the Drumkeen man won the Under-23 bronze medal in the time trial at the National Road Race Championships, held at Knockaderry in Limerick.

McLaughlin had been signed with Zappi Racing in Italy for 2020, but the campaign was badly interrupted by Covid-19.

McLaughlin spent a brief period in Italy at the end of the summer.

He finished 30th in a time trial and 50th in a race in his first event post-Lockdown, held at the F1 track in Imola, the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari

Prior to returning home, McLaughlin came second and 13th in an Extrgiro event in Faenza.
