Michael Gallagher ready for a familiar stage on professional debut

Michael Gallagher has won eleven Irish titles as an amateur, but tonight steps through the ropes of the National Stadium for his professional debut.

The Finn Valley puncher faces Poland’s Mateusz Rybarski.

Cruiserweight Gallagher is under the coaching of Conor Quigley and is back in action following a period out of the sport.

“Training has been good and I’m ready to perform,” said Gallagher.

“I’ve been out for a while. It was a new step so I had no problem getting back. I had a bit of ring rust, but hopefully I’ll get in and perform well. All I want to do is to perform.”

The Kinletter man believes the pro style will suit him.

He said: “There’s a bit of power there, and speed as well, but there’s a lot more to come over the next four or five years. I’m going to take my time and take even every training session as it comes.

“The longer rounds will suit me. The amateurs are more and more like the pros now anyway.”
