Michael Coyle scored four goals as Illies Celtic defeated Aileach Reserves to secure the Stand Hotel First Division title today at Stranaclea.

They coasted to victory, even allowing for the concession of the three Aileach goals and the Illies men are back in the Premier Division following their relegation last season.

John Doherty’s team were four-one up at half-time and got their mitts on the prize after a thrillint game.

They took the lead after just two minutes when Kevin McGonigle converted from 15 yards after good work by Dominick Coyle.

After a sustained period of pressure, they doubled the lead in the 34th minute as Michael Coyle fired in after being teed up by Paddy Doherty.

Illies scored twice in four minutes before the end of the half. Paddy Doherty headed home from a corner to make it three-nil and Michael Coyle made it four when he finished off a cross by John Pio Donaghy.

In added time at the end of the half, Liam Collins pulled one back for Aileach, but it was never in doubt.

Coyle scored his third five minutes into the second half. Coyle chased a back-pass and blocked the attempted clearance by Ciaran Bradley, with the ball lobbing into the net.

Coyle got his fourth to make it 6-1 in the 64th minute as he gave Bradley no chance with a cracking low drive from 20 yards.

It got even better for rampant Illies as Donaghy slammed home to make it 7-1.

Killian O’Rourke converted a penalty and Stephen O’Donnell drilled home from a free-kick, but the champagne was about to be converted as Illies make an immediate return to the top flight.
