BARRY MCNAMEE WAS on the mark tonight as Derry City defeated Wexford Youths to reach the semi-finals of the 2016 Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup.

Derry had to come from behind, but Kenny Shiels’ team won 3-1 at Ferrycarrig Park with McNamee netting the third goal.

Eric Molloy had given Wexford a fifth-minute lead, but Rory Patterson struck with an equaliser with the final kick of the first half.

The Candystripes took the lead through Austrian midfielder Lukas Schubert in the 66th minute and, six minutes from time, McNamee steered home Derry’s third.

It was the 24-year-old Ramelton native’s fourth goal of the season and puts Derry into the last four.

The draw for the semi-finals, where Derry are joined by Dundalk, Cork City and the winners of tomorrow’s game between St Patrick’s Athletic and Cobh Ramblers, will be made on Tuesday morning next.

McNamee has already played in two FAI Cup finals.

He played as a substitute in the 2014 final when Derry lost 2-0 to St Patrick’s Athletic, but he started the 2012 final, when Derry defeated Pat’s 3-2 after extra time.
