DAVID McMillan scored the only goal of the game as Dundalk overcame Finn Harps at Oriel Park.

Dundalk 1 Finn Harps 0

McMillan’s first-half strike gave Dundalk a win that hoists them to sixth while Harps’ wretched run of results continues.

Harps had a bette2r second half, but Dundalk were able to hold firm without adding to McMillan’s goal.

Harps haven’t won since a 2-1 victory at Waterford in May and they’ve taken just one point from their last six outings.

Will Patching fired over early on before Raivis Jurkvoskis wasn’t far off with a volley.

McMillan’s header in the 14th minute was taken from the goal-line and Sonni Nattaestad managed to fire wide when well placed.

Dundalk broke the deadlock on 33 minutes as McMillan prodded home after Jurkvoskis was denied by Mark Anthony McGinley.

On the hour, a Barry McNamee corner wasn’t cleared and Alessio Abibi, the Dundalk goalkeeper, couldn’t deal with it under strain from Kosovar Sadiki, but Harps were unable to take advantage.

Harps gave a debut to new signing Dan Hawkins and he might have did better when the ball broke, but he couldn’t get a shot in.

McMllan should have put the game beyond Harps, but McGinley saved.

Late in the game, Tunde Owolabi headed wide with a big chance of a leveller.

Dundalk: Alessio Abibi; Raivis Jurkovskis, Andy Boyle, Sonni Nattestad, Darragh Leahy; Sam Stanton, Patrick McEleney; Daniel Kelly (Val Adedokun 93), Will Patching (Wilfried Zahibo 87), Michael Duffy; David McMillan (Ole Erik Midtskogen 79).
