Jim McGuinness is one of three Donegal men who are set to begin their UEFA Pro Licence coaching course.

Former All-Ireland winning Gaelic football boss McGuinness, the recently appointed manager of Charlotte Independence, is among 19 participants to begin the course tomorrow under Ruud Dokter, the FAI High Performance Director.

The Glenties man will be joined on the 18-month course by Finn Harps assistant manager Paul Hegarty and by Harps coach William O’Connor.

The group also contains former Republic of Ireland internationals Robbie Keane, Damien Duff, Keith Andrews and Andy Reid.

McGuinness began his coaching career while working at Celtic FC, before moving to Chinese Super League outfit Beijing Sinobo Guoan, where he worked as assistant to Roger Schmidt.

McGuinness has taken over Charlotte Independence, in what is the three-time Ulster SFC and 2012 All-Ireland winning manager’s first job as a soccer manager.

“It is fantastic to unveil the participants for the latest UEFA Pro Licence course run by the FAI, which will include 19 highly-skilled coaches aiming to take the next step in their respective careers,” said Dokter.

“The FAI has placed a strong emphasis on coach education and development – under the guidance of Niall O’Regan – and previous graduates from this course, which is the highest level in Europe, have been able to progress in their respective careers. I look forward to working with this new group.”

The 2019/20 FAI UEFA Pro Licence participants are: John Andrews, Keith Andrews, Jim Brennan, John Cotter, Damien Duff, Neale Fenn, Paul Hegarty, Robbie Keane, Paddy McCarthy, Jim McGuinness, Kevin Maher, Ger O’Brien, William O’Connor, Vinny Perth, Andy Reid, Stephen Rice, Dave Rogers, Szilard Suto, Srdjan Tufegdzic
