Raphoe ABC boxer Eoin McGarrell will look to get back into an Irish final this weekend as he lines up in a Junior 1 semi-final on Friday night.
McGarrell faces Saints’ Reece Toner in a 48kgs semi.

Earlier this month, McGarrell defeated Craig Bigger from Cookstown in the Ulster final and is now back on the national trail again.

McGarrell was the Irish Boy 2 champion during his time at Finn Valley ABC and goes in search of another national crown over the next couple of weekends.

First, though, is Friday night’s semi against Toner.

Letterkenny ABC’s Paddy McShane is in the Boy 4 36kgs final while Dunfanaghy’s Sean Kelly will line up in the Junior 2 final at 48kgs.

McShane defeated Aoisin Mulholland of East Down in the semi-final and will take on Olympic Mullingar’s John Joyce in the decider, while Kelly received a bye to his final, where Martin C McDonagh from Ballina is in wait.

The finals take place on Saturday, April 8.

Illies Golden Gloves’ EJ Gibbons is in a Junior 2 semi-final at 54kgs on Friday-week, April 7, when he faces Colm Murphy from St George’s.

There was no joy for Letterkenny’s Joe harkin or Illies’ Jesse Callaghan in their Boy 4 quarter-finals at the weekend. Callaghan lost out to Tralee’s Jonathan McCarthy at 42kgs and at 44kgs Callaghan was beaten by Avona’s Seamus Mongan.

Raphoe’s Oisin McHugh lost out to Holy Trinity’s Chris Fisher in a Junior 1 57kgs quarter-final.

Another boxer with strong Donegal connections is already through to a final.

Aodhán Byrne, boxing out of the Kilcullen ABC in Kildare, will be in the Boy 4 42kgs final. After beating Michael McDonagh at the weekend, he’ll face Cian Brazin from Smithfield in the April 8 final.

Aodhán’s mother, Sinead, is nee Long from Carrickmagrath in Ballybofey.
