Darren McFadden’s penalty fired Bonagee United into the semi-finals of the Knockalla Caravans Senior Cup, at the expense of Cockhill Celtic.

Bonagee started brightly and created a number of early chances.

On seven minutes, Sean Hume won the ball on the edge of his own box and found Micheál Doherty who made ground down the left before finding Darren McFadden whose side-footed effort went narrowly wide.

Cockhill looked dangerous too and, after Mark Moran had a shot easily held by Eugene Ferry, the hosts had a goal-bound Jason Breslin effort cleared off the line by Emmet Friel.

McFadden had another shot just over the bar just before half time.

Bonagee started the second half on the front foot again and went close on 47 minutes.

A Bonagee free kick was cleared to the edge of the box. When the ball was played back in, it found Garbhan Grant whose shot shaved the post.

A minute later they went close again when a Michael Funston shot was well saved by Gavin Cullen.

On 51 minutes, a Laurence Toland shot was cleared off the line.

Cullen was called on again on the hour when pushing behind a McFadden shot from distance.

The defining moment of the game came six minutes later. McFadden received the ball in a central area outside the box. He danced through a couple of attempted tackles before being fouled by Cullen, who Cullen received a second yellow card after being cautioned in the first half.

Oisin McColgan took over in goal but McFadden kept his composure to score the only goal of the game.

Cockhill pressed for the remainder if the game but Bonagee comfortably held out for a famous victory.
