Two early Paddy McCafferty goals helped Naomh Muire to a surprise victory over Red Hugh’s in their Championship opener at the Banks on Saturday afternoon.

Naomh Muire 2-9 Red Hugh’s 0-8

McCafferty struck goals in the first and seventh minutes, and Naomh Muire were 2-3 to no score up after 19 minutes.

Red Hugh’s came back strongly towards the end of the half, and struck the last five points of the half to leave themselves trailing by four at the break.

The Killygordon side lost Shane Gallagher to a red card, and while Jack Gillespie and Calvin Bradley kept the scoreboard ticking for them, they could have few complaints about this defeat.

Late points from Daniel Devlin and Eoin Martin secured Naomh Muire’s win.
