Mark English takes victory in 800m in Sweden

MARK English won the men’s 800m at the Karlstad Grand Prix in Sweden.

English took victory in 1:46.50, beating local favourite Andreas Kramer into second.

The Finn Valley AC man seemed comfortable and at ease as he clicked the gears over the last 200 metres.

With 100m to go, English got by Kramer to take the win at the World Athletics Continental Tour bronze meeting.

Olympic-bound English was aiming to cement further his place in Tokyo by making the automatic qualifying time, but his run was outside of the 1:45.20.

On Saturday night, he was just 0.02 seconds outside the qualifying time when running a season’s best 1:45.22 for second at Meeting Madrid.

Saturday’s time was English’s best since 2014 and his fifth fastest run of all time.

English noted afterwards that he had recaptured his ‘mojo’ and flew from Madrid to Karlstad for this evening’s run.

Prior to his run in Madrid, English had a minor injury which prevented his participation at events in Hengelo and Göteborg. He returned with a winning run in Sollentuna, where Kramer was among his competitors, finishing third.
