PATRICK MCBREARTY WAS on fire this afternoon in the colours of Ulster University, Jordanstown in the Independent.ie Sigerson Cup.

The Kilcar forward kicked 1-6 (5f) in UUJ’s 2-4 to 0-11 win over Garda College, 1-4 of which came in the first 10 minutes.

UUJ, with Ryan McHugh at wing-back and his father Martin part of the management team on the sideline, were reduced to 14 men before the break when Rory Brennan from Tyrone was sent off for striking.

Sean Fox, the UUJ goalkeeper, saved Daithi Shannon’s penalty in the closing stages and Mayo’s Evan Regan flicked home a 57th minute goal.

Gary Farren from Malin was corner-back for Garda College and Peter McGee was at midfield. Naomh Conaill’s Seamus Corcoran was part of the panel and Shane O’Gara, Naomh Columba, was the substitute goalkeeper. Carlow’s Brendan Murphy was sent off for two yellow cards at the bitter end.
